VITALY RAKHMAN BIOGRAPHY
Vitaly Rakhman, an artist, designer, and poet, received a classical education in art and design in the USSR where he was awarded several prestigious medals for design. In 1974 he was exiled to Siberia for his participation in a nonconformist art exhibit which evidenced his fight for human and artistic freedom of expression. He emigrated to the United States in 1980.
Several of his art and design works are situated in the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey in the Norton, and Nancy Dodge Collection of Nonconformist Art from the USSR. He produced and participated in several group and personal art shows in New York and Philadelphia. Vitaly created a conceptual exhibit called “Alphabet of Art”. His theme was letters as visual symbols. This popular exhibit was displayed on three different continents. His work is also found in private collections.
In his paintings, he uses a combination of classical art, strong design elements and an expressionistic approach. He draws his inspiration from nature and particularly the forms and sensuality of women. His art encompasses a wide variety of styles, but always includes visual, emotional, and poetic elements.
